The American Theatre Wing has announced that this year’s Tony Awards have been postponed. The ceremony was originally set to take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York on June 7, 2020.
“The health and safety of the Broadway community, artists and fans is of the utmost importance to us,” The American Theater Wing stated.
“We will announce new dates and additional information once Broadway opens again. We are looking forward to celebrating Broadway and our industry when it is safe to do so,” the company added.
Broadway has been closed since March 12, 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. April 12, 2020 has emerged as the tentative return date for theaters.
Overseas, the pandemic has had a similar impact. The U.K. equivalent to the Tony Awards, The Oliver Awards, has been canceled. The award show was originally set to take place on April 5, 2020.
The American Theater Wing has not announced a potential future date for the Tony Awards to take place.
