
Novelist, essayist, educator and activist Toni Morrison has passed away at the age of 88. The Ohio native is best known for her work on Beloved, Jazz and Paradise. Morrison is also well known for her work on Song of Solomon.
Morrison is one of the most decorated writers of the last century. Through her work, she has racked up a number of accolades and awards. The Howard University alumna has earned a Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Norman Mailer Prize and a number of other prestigious literary awards.
In addition, Morrison has made her mark on the world of education. During her long career, Morrison has taught at the State University of New York, Rutgers University, University of Albany and Princeton University. In 2017, Princeton University renamed West College after her.

In her passing, Morrison leaves behind two children, Harold Ford Morrison and Slade Morrison. Earlier today, the family of Toni Morrison stated, “She was an extremely devoted mother, grandmother and aunt who reveled in being with her family and friends.” The Morrison’s added, “Although her passing represents a tremendous loss, we are grateful she had a long, well lived life.”
There is no official cause of death yet. The Morrison’s will update the public as more information becomes available.
