Ava DuVernay is currently hard at work promoting her upcoming Netflix series, When They See Us. However, she’s now in the headlines again regarding an update on another one of her major projects. The superstar filmmaker will co-write The New Gods alongside Batman comic writer, Tom King. King is an Eisner Award winner who is best known for his work on the Batman series as well as Mister Miracle.
The New Gods is an upcoming DC film. According to The Wrap, the film “focuses on twin alien planets, the idyllic New Genesis and the hellish Apokolips, ruled by equally powerful but morally opposite leaders.” New Genesis is ruled by a giving figure known as Highfather. Meanwhile, Apokolips is known as the kingdom of Darkseid. Darkseid is widely known as one of the most villainous figures in the entire DC Universe.
The New Gods is still in the early stages of production. As a result, we don’t have an exact release date as of yet. In the meantime, fans can prepare to watch DuVernay’s latest work, When They See Us. The Central Park Five inspired true crime series will be released on June 1st on Netflix.
