New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has said in the past he plans to play to the age of 45.
In order to accomplish that, Brady would have to play three more years. His Patriots contract is up after this year, and reports circulated some time back that he and his wife put their Boston-area home up for sale.
Brady also agreed to a new contract in August. At the time, it was sold as a contract extension, but the deal essentially gave the 42-year-old quarterback a raise for this season as well as the ability to become a free agent at the conclusion of the league year. So it wasn’t exactly the “extension” it was sold as.
Sources: #Patriots QB Tom Brady’s new deal includes a provision that does not allow NE to franchise or transition tag him for the 2020 season. The final two years automatically void on the last day of the 2019 league year, but he cannot be tagged. Brady will be a free agent.

For his part, Brady downplayed the connecting-of-the-dots between his home, contract, and plans. Speaking to NBC Sports Boston, the Patriots signal-caller said:
“I don’t know why it is being brought up. I had a good quote that came to mind that someone told me, ‘The past and the future are in the mind. I am in the now.’ I think that is a great way to live life. I am not thinking about many things beyond this week. There’s some family things I am thinking about with the holidays coming up, but outside of that I am thinking about football and how I can be the best for the New England Patriots.”
