Tips from the Experts: 3 Strategies You Should Know in Horse Racing Betting

So, are you looking to bet in the races and win big at the end of the day? Then you’re in luck since we will be talking about some of the effective horse racing strategies you can use in the races. Just take note, however, that these strategies don’t guarantee you a win. They only give you a better chance of winning.

Even veteran punters have days that lose a lot of money instead of winning. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take note of the things that we will discuss below. You might think that some of them are basic strategies, but they are proven effective most of the time.

That said, here are some of the horse racing strategies you should know about.

Take a Look at the Jockey

One of the most common mistakes that beginners make is that they don’t look at the jockey’s experience and track record. Horse racing is a sport where man and beast work together. Hence, only analyzing the horse’s form is a huge mistake.

There are a few things you should consider looking into when researching a jockey. Of course, you should first check their track record. Are they winning recently? When was the last time they raced? These things are crucial when looking at their track record.

The second thing you should look into is their experience with the horse and the track they’ll be running on. Have you ever driven a car that isn’t yours? It might take you a while to adjust to the owner’s preferences, and this also applies to horses. There might be a few issues with syncing up if the jockey doesn’t have much experience with the horse. This is especially true if the horse itself is new to a particular track.

Also, you have to consider the jockey’s experience with the track itself. Take note that an experienced jockey knows the ins and outs of a track. They would know its good sections, where they can speed up and avoid sections that won’t benefit them in the race.

So what’s the bottom line here? Always make sure not to neglect your research on the jockeys.

Research the Horses’ Owners

If you already have tons of experience in horse racing betting, you’ll know some of the owners’ names and how they can have a big impact on the horse’s performance. You might be wondering, “Why should I look into them if they aren’t even in the race itself?”

First of all, the owners are the ones that decide how much quality of life a horse will have when they are in their care. Also, they get to pick the trainers of the horses themselves.

One would think that it might be a good idea to look into the trainers and it does have a point. But you have to remember that a trainer can only do so much without a budget, which the owner can provide. Of course, this is not to say that a new owner won’t be successful. But if you want to have a bigger chance of winning, back the horse with a veteran owner.

For example, let’s say you’re betting on the Kentucky Derby. Big horse racing events such as this iconic event give people access to the owners and the trainers. This is a good way to learn more about the Kentucky Derby. If you see that a horse has a world-renowned owner, then you might want to heavily back it up.

Shopping for Odds

Shopping for odds is a straightforward way of increasing your overall payout. The best thing about them is that you can do this with any other sport, not just horse racing. Just like when you’re shopping for clothes that will suit you, you can also shop odds and see which of them has the highest payout for your bet.

Once you place your horse and the type of bet you want to wager on, you can check various online sites for higher payouts. After finding one that suits your preferences, don’t hesitate and bet on it. You can even wager on multiple bets if you’re feeling lucky. Sure, the difference might only be a few dollars, but a dollar is a dollar.

Having an extra dollar is always good, especially when you stack them up over time. Not only that, it will only take you a few minutes to scour the internet for a higher payout. Honestly, if you don’t shop odds regularly, you’re missing out on a lot of winnings.

Final Words

These strategies are simple, straightforward, and easy. Moreover, they don’t take much of your time. If you’re a beginner, then you better start the habit of following these strategies. And if you’re a veteran, you probably already know how these strategies can lead you to profit. They’re fundamental in the world of horse racing betting and are always of use whether you’re starting out or have been doing this for a long time.
