Tinashe is gearing up to show off her acting chops in her lead role in one of theatre’s biggest musicals.
Tinashe recently got booted off Dancing With the Stars, but no worries, because the “No Drama” singer is booked and busy as a cast member of RENT the live musical. Slated to air on FOX, the award-winning musical will be executive produced by powerhouse Marc Platt, who’s produced other big-time musicals such as Grease: Live, Wicked, and La la Land.
FOX states,
“The groundbreaking musical is a re-imagining of Puccini’s “La Bohème,” set in New York City’s gritty East Village, which tells the unforgettable story of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams during a time of great social and political turmoil. Writer/composer Jonathan Larson’s tour de force celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, as it continues to offer an inspiring message of hope and friendship.”
Tinashe has been casted as ‘Mimi Marquez,’ an HIV positive dancer who struggles with addiction. The songstress has been casted alongside fellow R&B singer Mario, and Jordan Fisher, Brennin Hunt, Brandon Victor Dixon, Valentia, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kiersey Clemons.
RENT is scheduled to air on FOX on Sunday, January 27 at 7 PM-10 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed.
