The Minnesota Timberwolves are beginning to call around the league in hopes of acquiring a frontcourt player, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Minnesota has disappointed its optimistic fans so far this season, currently holding a 7-18 record while ranking second to last in the West.
The team possesses a valuable young core of Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, but could use further depth in its frontcourt to solidify the group.
One potential trade partner for Tom Thibodeau could be the 76ers, who have a frontcourt clearly overcrowded with players. Minnesota could dangle Ricky Rubio as trade bait, as Philadelphia is seeking backcourt assistance.
Whether the Sixers would be intrigued with that potential offer is unknown — Ricky Rubio is 26 years old, and the team may be searching for a player even younger to mesh with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and company.
The NBA trade season kicked off on December 15th, with over 120 players becoming trade-eligible. Both Minnesota and Philadelphia are expected to be active during the next two months and around the deadline.
