An integral part of the New York Knicks future, guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is still recovering from a mysterious left leg injury. It was first thought that Hardaway’s ‘stress injury’ was expected to keep him out for approximately two weeks.
However, Hardway Jr. recently spoke on his dinged up leg and it didn’t seem like good news. Hardaway Jr. told New York Post’s Marc Berman that the injury is a ‘serious’ one and he has no timetable for when he plans to return:
“This is serious,” Hardaway Jr. said. “I’m going to take everything slow. This is a serious injury.”
When asked directly if he felt he will be back by the start of the new year, Hardaway demurred.
“The goal is just to get better first,” Hardaway said before the Knicks faced the Nets at the Barclays Center on Thursday. “That’s the goal. I’m not giving myself no deadline. I don’t want to get to that point and be upset and down on myself. I don’t want to give myself a set date on when I should return. I’ll do what I can to get this right. When I’m confident and ready to go, then we’ll see.’’
Based off what Tim Hardway Jr. had to say, it’s clear the guard needs substantially more time before he can think about his return to the hardwood. The initial two-week estimation for Hardway Jr. now looks like a much too short window.
Stress injuries can be tricky at times and also have the ability to turn into something more if not taken care of correctly. Still only 25 years old, it’s important Hardway Jr. take the time he needs to come back from this troublesome injury to ensure he doesn’t aggravate the issue.
Prior to the injury, Tim Hardaway Jr. was doing a solid job as the team’s starting 2 guard, posting a career-high scoring average of 17.8 points per game and was thriving as the second-fiddle to centerpiece Kristaps Porzingis.
