Before the clock strikes 12, the Dallas Mavericks entered the room. According to another Marc Stein report, the Mavericks and Tim Hardaway Jr. reached a contract agreement early in free agency. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the full deal: 4-year, $74 million deal.
Dallas, I’m told, is expected to reach agreement to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. early in free agency. Hardaway and Boban Marjanovic are two Mavs free agents they were determined to retain and sources say they will.

While Dallas reportedly fell behind in the Kyle Lowry sweepstakes, re-signing Hardaway Jr is imperative to save its future flexibility. Although the Mavericks have yet to lead in any rumors involving outside players, fortunately, they retained their free agents. Hardaway Jr. was a key player to the Mavericks’ run to the playoffs and will provide stability to a roster that recently changed head coaches.
Dallas is seeking a player to relieve Luka Doncic’s ultra-high usage rating. During the 2021 NBA playoffs, Tim Hardaway Jr averaged 17 points on 40 percent 3-point shooting. Regardless of the next star-caliber player, the Mavericks strive to sign, Hardaway Jr fills Dallas’ 3-point shooting void.
