So, I’ve got some good news and bad news for fans of The Big Lebowski. The good news is that the upcoming Lebowski spin-off The Jesus Rolls has finally received a trailer. The bad news, unless you speak Italian, is that it’s the Italian trailer.
Honestly, it feels oddly appropriate for this film for a number of reasons. Already set to be an irreverent film in its own right, how better to reveal it to the world than with a trailer dubbed in Italian. Beyond that though, the film’s plot will be a loose retelling of the 1974 French comedy-drama Going Places from Bertrand Blier. So, it’s already got the DNA of a foreign language film and this feels like a small homage to that.
It will revolve around John Turturro’s Jesus Quintana as he gets out of jail. Once out he meets up with Bobby Cannavale and Audrey Tautou and the three head off on a strange road trip on the run from a very upset Jon Hamm. I wish I could give you more specifics but I sadly don’t speak Italian (I know, I’ll work on it for next time). However, even in Italian, the trailer makes it seem like it will be a wild, subversive ride of a film. Check it out below:
The Jesus Rolls releases in Italy next month. It’s then slated to hit theaters stateside sometime in early 2020.
