The Arrowverse just got a little bit bigger. According to Deadline, The CW has ordered a new spin-off of its massively popular superhero series centered on Oliver Queen’s daughter as the Green Arrow.
Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy are on board to star in the series, which will reportedly receive a backdoor pilot in the upcoming final season of Arrow. McNamara has played Mia Smoak, Oliver Queen’s daughter, since last season in a recurring role, though she is being bumped to series regular this year.
Cassidy and Harkavy have both portrayed different versions of the Arrowverse‘s Black Canary over the last eight years. Cassidy’s Laurel Lance held the moniker for the first four seasons before moving over to The Flash. Harkavy joined the series in season five as Dinah Drake, who then picked up the mantle of Black Canary. She’s been a series regular since season 6 and expected to return in the final season.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz recently teased another Arrow spin-off while at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. “There’s a possibility,” he stated. “But we haven’t had a discussion about what that storyline will do as [we plot the] next generation [of DC shows]. There is another property we’re looking at for the following season.” He remained understandably coy at the time but this is likely the “next generation” he was referring to.
No title or release date has been announced yet. And I’d imagine we won’t hear much more until the backdoor pilot episode considering much of that info could be heavy on spoilers for Arrow season 8.
