Today’s the day The Cleveland Cavaliers will hopefully fill in another piece to the puzzle for a already busy off season for the orginization. The Cleveland Cavaliers will bring in former Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach David Blatt for a face to face interview. Blatt is highly thought of as an offensive genius overseas and in The NBA.
Blatt clearly has a history of winning overseas as a coach:
Euroleague champion (2014)
4x Israeli League Coach of the Year (1996, 2002, 2011, 2014)
6x Israeli Cup Champion (2002, 2003, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014)
5x Israeli League Champion (2002, 2003, 2011, 2012, 2014)
FIBA EuroChallenge Champion (2005)
Russian Super League Coach of the Year (2005)
Italian League Champion (2006)
Italian Cup Champion (2007)
Adriatic League Champion (2012)
“I am leaving here not because I was asked to. The opposite is true, I was asked to stay, and offered the best possible conditions for such an event,” Blatt said. “But I just felt it is a move I wanted to make. It has been a dream of mine for almost forever to go and join a team in the NBA in some capacity. I wish I could have done it as a player. I wasn’t good enough. But now perhaps I’ll have that opportunity as a coach.”
After Maccabi Tel Aviv upset Real Madrid, Blatt has become a very hot name around the league for teams with head coaching vacancies. If Cleveland hires Blatt it would be a big step in the process of getting The Cavs on the right track, and it is a coaching hire unlike any other in the history of the franchise. If Blatt does not get the Cavaliers job he will become an assistant coach for The Golden State Warriors more than likely.
