The Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets had trade talks a couple weeks ago to trade veteran Point Guard Jarrett Jack to the Brooklyn Nets for the expiring contract of Marcus Thornton to clear some cap space for The Cavaliers which would eventually die down. With all the free agency buzz around The Cavaliers trying to lure LeBron James back we could very well see these talks revive (if they even stopped). The Cavaliers need to get Jack’s $6.3 million dollar contract off their books to give LeBron James as much money as they possibly can in a signing. The only problem is finding a third team to eat Thornton’s contract which shouldn’t be too big of an issue since it is an expiring contract. One team rumored to take on Thornton’s contract is The Atlanta Hawks, but they know what’s at stake so they may up their asking price with a possible throw in pick or Russian Guard/Forward Sergey Karasev who was recently made available by Cleveland.
Since losing back up Point Guard Shaun Livingston Brooklyn may be motivated to do this trade to get a Veteran Point Guard like Jack who may be overpaid, but can come in right away and produce for this veteran team. Jack was supposed to be the back up to Cavs Point Guard Kyrie Irving to help him progress and come off the bench to take the scoring load off him at times too. Only problem with that is Former Cavs General Manager Chris Grant gave him a huge contract and Jack struggled greatly at times not living up to the contract at all. If this deal does in fact happen we all know what the next move could be and with each failed attempt to sign a free agent Miami could be looking at The Cavaliers bringing back LeBron James.
