For the past week or two we’ve heard Cleveland and Minnesota have been talking trade with Minnesota that sends Kevin Love to join forces with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. The player in the middle of those talks is the number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins, and Cleveland has been reluctant to add Wiggins to any offer. Cleveland is reportedly going to sign Wiggins within the next few days, and The Cavaliers are ready to talk a deal not involving Wiggins.
The Timberwolves think they have all the leverage and they’re wrong. According to Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski LeBron James has reached out to Kevin Love last week telling him that he wants to be on the same team with Love in the near future. It’s also rumored that Love is willing to sign an extension with Cleveland now that LeBron James has signed with the team. The longer this goes the better it is for The Cavs so if Golden State does in fact want Kevin Love on their team they better up the offer for him.
Kevin Love sometime this season is likely to force his way out of Minnesota it’s a no brainer. Love fits either team of Golden State or Cleveland greatly (who wouldn’t have room for a guy that averaged 26 PPG & 12 REB) , but if I’m Cleveland I’ll take the gamble of trading a rookie for a Kevin Love. I love the upside of Andrew Wiggins, but seeing the Cavaliers for the past four seasons they were a train wreck. If you add Love you immediately step into the conversation of championship contender.
The only real question if you’re Cleveland is do you sacrifice the young nucleus you have to possibly one day run into the same problems The Miami Heat had this season? Or do you go for it all? If you’re a championship starved franchise and city you go for the gold, because the opportunity may not present itself in the future. Besides a lineup consisting of Irving, LeBron, and Love would just be too fun to watch.
Side note: If I’m Golden State and I can somehow pair Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Love together you can’t help but think of the inside and outside game they’d play or the excellent floor spacing that come along with them on the same team as well. If I’m an opposing defense and I see those three I’m cringing at the thought of playing the perimeter, but it seems if Golden State doesn’t include Klay Thompson then they aren’t talking trade so my fantasy land trade isn’t working.
