The Toronto Raptors are trading disgruntled point guard Goran Dragic to the San Antonio Spurs for forward Thaddeus Young. Goran Dragic was traded to the Toronto Raptors this past offseason in the sign and trade deal that had Kyle Lowry land with the Miami Heat. The veteran point guard made it clear that he did not have any interest in playing for the Toronto Raptors this season. It was also clear that the Spurs desired a trade to send Young away for a different player.

The full framework of the deal gives the Toronto Raptors the frontcourt depth they’d been searching for with Thaddeus Young and Drew Eubanks. San Antonio and Goran Dragic’s plans are unclear, but picking up draft capital is sure to help the Spurs with their rebuilding process. Both teams get what they were looking for at the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline.
Goran Dragic has only played five games for the Raptors this season and averaged eight points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Thaddeus Young has played in a bench role for the Spurs and averaged 6.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. While the Spurs are unlikely to make the playoffs this year, the Raptors are currently the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Young seems to be an ideal fit for the versatile forward system that Nick Nurse and the Raptors are running this season. It seems that the Raptors beat out the Phoneix Suns in the trade market.
