With the 21st overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder drafted shooting guard Terrance Ferguson from Australia. Shortly after, the Thunder were scheduled to participate in the Orlando Summer League, so their young talent could be evaluated.
However, Ferguson was not able to play because he had not yet been given clearance by FIBA. This lasted until July 14th and once given clearance Ferguson was finally allowed to negotiate his contract.

Ferguson was yet to obtain clearance from FIBA to sign with an NBA team and thus, was not eligible to negotiate with the Thunder for the first three weeks following OKC choosing him with the No. 21 pick in this past June’s NBA Draft. He finally obtained clearance from FIBA to sign with the Thunder on July 14, The Transcript reported Thursday morning.
Yesterday, Ferguson agreed to terms on a four-year rookie scale contract with the Thunder.

This was obviously a long process for both Ferguson and the Thunder, but the two sides can now focus on basketball instead of being held up by complications.
