WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford is set to meet unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in a major Las Vegas prizefight. While it will undoubtedly be one of the most lucrative events on this year’s boxing calendar, it may not end up being the most anticipated fight within boxing circles. On Tuesday, Naoya Inoue will move up in weight and attempt to earn a world title in his fourth weight class. The only man standing in his way is Philadelphia’s Stephen Fulton Jr. With a perfect record and two world titles, Fulton Jr. presents the toughest challenge of Inoue’s career. Many believe that Inoue will walk away with the win, but one world champion believes that the Philadelphia native has what it takes to pull off the upset.
“I’m leaning towards Fulton, I hope he can bring it [the unified title] back to the United States, I hope he can go out there and do good and I wish him well,” WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford said.
“I think that it’s going to be a tough fight for both fighters and that the better man is going to win on that day. I just think that Fulton is the bigger, stronger guy.”
Inoue possesses power in both hands, but Crawford is convinced that Fulton Jr. is more skillful and holds a significant size advantage.
“Not only is he bigger and stronger but he has skills too, it’s one thing where a lot of people say ‘well this guy is big, this guy is strong’ but skills pay the bills and Floyd [Mayweather] proved that,” Crawford continued.
“Fulton has got the skills to back up his size as well.”
Fulton Jr. will meet Inoue in the center of the ring in Tokyo, Japan at Ariake Arena on the morning of July 25.
