The culture of Hip-Hop and the sport of boxing overlap in more ways than one. It is not uncommon to see Drake pop up at Shakur Stevenson’s birthday party or Tobe Nwigwe train with Jermall Charlo. Not to mention, entertainment moguls like J. Prince and Jay-Z have played a role in promoting the likes of Andre Ward, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and several other champions. Above all else, artists across the culture have delivered memorable performances as the best boxers in the world walk into the ring. Method Man and Redman made history when they brought their talents to Radio City Music Hall for Roy Jones Jr.’s knockout of David Telesco. More recently, Sada Baby helped introduce Alycia Baumgardner at The Masonic Temple in Detroit when she fought Christina Linardatou. This weekend, Hip-Hop and boxing may connect once again.
On Thursday, Terence Crawford shared a video of himself training alongside two-division champion Shakur Stevenson. Intertwined with footage of him training for a fight with Errol Spence Jr., Crawford spoke with Stevenson about how he’d like to be introduced for the fight/
“Who [do] you [have] got walking you out though?” Stevenson asked.
“Sh*t, I don’t know man. You know what I was thinking would be crazy sh*t? I think it would be dope to have Eminem walk me out or something like that,” Crawford answered.
It didn’t take long for this request to catch Eminem’s attention. On Friday, Eminem hopped in the video’s comments section and revealed that he is a fan of Crawford as well.
“This is [too] crazy. You [are one] of my favorite boxers [right now],” Eminem wrote.
“Pull up Em! Let’s do some legendary sh*t,” Crawford replied.
There’s no word as to whether or not they’ll be able to pull this off, but it would be another interesting aspect of Saturday’s super fight. On July 29, Crawford will challenge Errol Spence Jr. for the undisputed welterweight title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
