In 2017 it’s easy to take for granted the widespread availability of electricity. It’s sort of become intermixed with air and water from a necessity and availability standpoint. Which makes the fact that it hasn’t been widely accessible to the public for even 15o years even more astounding. Additionally, One thing we’ve come to know about these turning points in human history is that the widely accepted story as to what went down is often just the tip of the iceberg. ‘The Current War’ aims to expose and highlight these details that have been largely lost over time in regard to the battle to distribute electricity across the United States.
Edison, Westinghouse, and Tesla are just a few of the names who helped shape the future of this country forever through their contributions to the nations electrical development. Some perhaps have been given more credit than deserve during this period of time and it will be interesting to see if the film ends up portraying it in that light. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse and Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla. If the films performances are as strong as what was displayed in the trailer we could definitely be talking about ‘The Current War’ come Oscar season.
We’ve attached the trailer and official synopsis below.
“The Current War is a dramatic story of the cutthroat race between electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world.” Via TWC
