Early on in the second contest for Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics, the United States National Team was tied with Venezuela at the end of their first quarter at 18 a piece. It was a shock to many and soon the 50 point favorites were in an unfamiliar position. But, much like Team USA has done for a majority of this summer, they went into another gear and handled business.
Before the first half would come to an end, Team USA would put the game out of reach. The game started off much like USA’s recent contest against Venezuela last month in their exhibition game. Team USA quickly went on a 30-8 run and they didn’t look back. The US squad won the final three quarters 95-51, shot 55 percent from the field, and got their second 2016 Rio Olympics win, 113-69.
Paul George led the way for Team USA coming off the bench to score 20 points. Kevin Durant led all starters with 16, Jimmy Butler had 17 for the USA, while DeAndre Jordan and Carmelo Anthony each had 14. Early on in the second quarter, Anthony passed Michael Jordan to move into third on the USA’s all-time Olympic scoring list. Next up is David Robinson and LeBron James at the top spot.
Next up for Team USA is Australia and the Boomers aren’t holding back. They made easy work of the French national team in their first game and in the second game they toppled Serbia. Behind Andrew Bogut, Matthew Dellavedova, Patty Mills and Aron Baynes, Australia is looking to surprise the world and pull off an upset. That must watch game will be on Wednesday at 6pm ET.
