New York native Taj Gibson recently inked a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves worth $28 million over the next two years. He put some of that new contract to good use to help out a New York family.
21-year-old Chyna-Ann Battle was killed on July 12th after two gunmen shot into a crowded playground. She was struck in the head once by a bullet and died, leaving behind her three-year-old daughter named Amelia. This senseless act of violence in the courtyard of Stuyvesant Gardens Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn also killed a second woman, Shaqwanda Staley, 29.
A GoFundMe was setup by the family to help them provide for Battle’s three-year-old daughter.
“Everything she did revolved around making sure her daughter was good. Amelia may not remember all the memories she and her mother made being that she is so young.. What these cowards done to Chynna was cruel and reckless. Our family has set up this fund to assist with the day to day needs for Chynna Ann’s daughter, she always wanted the very best for her ‘Milly’ and worked everyday to provide for her.”
Fellow Brooklyn native Taj Gibson stepped up and donated $20,000 to help the family reach their $30,000 goal. They currently stand at a total donation of $24,025. Matt Moore of CBS Sports pointed out the GoFundMe page with Gibson’s donation.
