Taika Waititi is going to war on hate, according to the trailer for Jojo Rabbit. The latest outing from the “visionistical director” is a WWII satire of the highest order as Waititi is set to portray an imaginary version of Adolf Hitler.
The film follows the titular Jojo as his world is turned upside down. A young German boy during the height of Nazism, Jojo learns that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. We don’t get much of the plot in the trailer, sadly. Though we do get a look at the star-studded cast in action. Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, Sam Rockwell, Alfie Allen, and Stephen Merchant will all appear in the film.
The trailer mostly showcases specific shots and funny moments over any specific details of what’s actually happening. It seems like we can expect more of the same from Waititi though as he was recently quoted saying: “It was very similar to the tone of my other films – not including Shadows and Ragnarok – like Wilderpeople, Boy and my earlier films. A fun balance of tone of comedy and drama”
