Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has landed a role in Sony’s latest edition of Barbarella. Sweeney is expected to play the film’s titular role previously held by Jane Fonda in the 1968 edition of Jean-Claude Forest’s story.
“Barbarella, an astronaut from the 41st century, sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy,” the description of the 1968 film’s plot reads, according to IMDb.
Sydney Sweeney has risen to stardom within the last few years thanks to her performances in Euphoria and The White Lotus. She has also landed roles in Robot Chicken and Madame Web. Not to be forgotten, she is also set to play the role of Penny Jo Poplin in National Anthem.
Despite her recent success, Sydney Sweeney has found herself in hot water with many viewers during his rise to stardom. First, she became the butt of nearly every joke on social media when she said, “If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don’t have the income to cover that. I don’t have someone supporting me.” More recently, she was criticized after posting pictures of her mother’s 60th birthday party. In several photos, her father was spotted wearing a “Thin Blue Line” t-shirt and attendees wore parodied Make America Great Again hats that read, “Make Sixty Great Again.” As the photos were shared around the internet, Sweeney issued a brief response.
“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my [Mom’s] milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions,” she wrote.
While the backlash was enough to prompt a response from the actress, it has not stopped Hollywood directors and producers from booking the actress. She is currently filming Madame Web and will begin production of Barbarella in the near future.
