Triano was in his second season as an assistant coach for the Suns but took over as interim head coach after the team fired Earl Watson three games into the season. The Suns went 21-58 with Triano as head coach.
Prior to his time in Phoenix, Triano was the head coach of the Toronto Raptors from 2008 to 2011 after being an assistant in Toronto for six seasons. Following his stint with the Raptors, he spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Suns have reportedly contacted myriad candidates about the head-coaching job, including Jason Kidd, Vinny Del Negro, Kevin McHale, Igor Kososkov, James Borrego and David Fizdale.
Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer met with the Suns to discuss the job but ended up removing himself from consideration.
