Here at Def Pen, we pride ourselves on listening to and appreciating new up-and-coming talent across all genres. While we bask in countless amount of music from already established acts, it often happens that some of the best material goes unheard simply due to a lack of awareness.
That leads us into the Maryland native, Jay Verze. Making his official launch on the scene in 2012, the rapper unveiled various elements of his style with his debut project, 21117. Pronounced as Two Eleven Seventeen, the body of work showed a hungry and determined artist that meant business as a melting pot of different sounds were highlighted alongside the clear passion being voiced through Jay himself. Three years later, Mr. Verze has followed up with the release of a brand new EP, The Vintage EP: 1995. Upon the 7 records hosted on the EP, the vintage element is clearly heard from the early seconds of the first record. What makes it further interesting is the gritty turn that the vintage soundings take through the journey of the EP. More hard-hitting and darker than his debut, The Vintage EP: 1995 displays another attribute of Jay’s artistry as he takes all aspects of his work up a few notches.
