Steven Knight has been tapped to write the script for the first film of the new era of the James Bond franchise. Knight, best known for his work on Peaky Blinders and A Thousand Blows, will work alongside director Denis Villeneuve, who is currently leading the Dune franchise.
“I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Knight’s entry moves James Bond closer to the big screen. For more than 20 years, writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade crafted the scripts for lead actors Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. However, Brosnan, Craig, Wade, and Purvis have each stepped away from the franchise, leaving the door open for new writers, directors, and, of course, actors.
Most recently, Tom Holland has been the subject of rumors regarding the franchise. However, when asked about those rumors during a recent conversation with culinary icon Gordon Ramsay, he didn’t offer an answer one way or another.
“Listen, there’s speculation at the minute. We’ll keep it to a minimum for now,” Holland said. “We’ll get there one day.”
Instead, Holland will turn his attention toward Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to debut in theaters during the summer of 2026. He’s also attached to The Odyssey and American Speed.
