2 Chainz is having one of the best starts to the new year. Last month, he was spotted in the studio with LeBron James and sat down for an in-depth interview with Joe Budden. This past week, he dropped his latest album with features from Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande and Travis Scott. Now, he’s in the middle of producing an exclusive series with YouTube called Crate Talk. Inspired by the title of his latest album, 2 Chainz steps up to do short interviews with interesting and inspiring people. For the first episode, he spoke with Steve Stoute of Translation and United Masters.
In this innovative interview series, 2 Chainz chops it up with the entertainment mogul while playing a game of “Horse” or “Self”. During the interview, Steve Stoute touches on the process of making the Martin theme song and helping Pusha T land his deal with McDonald’s.
Towards the end, 2 Chainz begins talking about one of the best collaborations that never happened. The Atlanta rapper retold the story of passing on an opportunity to record with Jay-Z and Kanye West during their Watch The Throne era. 2 Chainz said, “Hov said, ‘I want you to come to New York. I heard you’re making a lot of noise.'” He later explains, “The only reason I did not go was I said, ‘Could I bring my buddy Tech with me?’ He said, ‘What do you want to bring your DJ for?’ I’m trying to tell him, ‘He helped me get to the point that I’m on your radar.'” Ultimately, he concludes, “I chose loyalty.”
