It’s 2015 and nearly 3 years after a blockbuster trade that almost guaranteed The Lakers a championship and giving Kobe Bryant the best Point Guard he’s ever played with. Three years later The Lakers have not even come close to smelling an NBA title and Steve Nash has only played in 65 games as a Laker. Steve Nash has rehabbed a nagging back injury for the past two seasons that he simply cannot shake. All signs looked positive that Nash was going to return this season, but his body simply could not do it.
Nash appeared on The Bro Jake Show on TSN 1040 Vancouver talking a little bit about his future in The NBA.
Unfortunately, the NBA game is just a touch too far for me. I play one game and I’m out for up to a month, and that nerve — I have a bunch of back things going on that compromise that nerve. You know, I’ve never worked as hard as I did the last 18 months [to] two years, twice a day almost every day to try to just give it that one last year or so. And you know, I had to finally kind of admit that it’s just not meant to be. And that’s tough, but I also feel a sense of acceptance because I gave it everything I possibly could.
Overall I’d say Nash has come to the conclusion that his 18 year career is more than likely over. At the age of 41 with nerve damage in his back and a ton of miles on his legs the Two time MVP will probably retire at the end of the season. It’s a shame Nash could not win a championship with either Dallas, Phoenix, or Los Angeles he’s the kind of player that you do not appreciate until he’s gone.
Nash made the pass that would freeze many defenders not only, because he would get players out of position but you were almost shocked that he actually just made the behind the back pass or the between the legs passes he made with ease on a game to game basis.
Not only did Nash make the assist his passes were so crisp and creative too.
No player in The NBA right now compares to Nash. He wasn’t the fastest guy on the court, but he could get where he wanted to just based on his handles and the on edge feeling of where Nash was going to dish the ball off to next.
It’s a shame the former MVP could not go out on his own terms, but he seems to accept the fact his days in The NBA are done.
