The Golden State Warriors have been without the services of Kevin Durant for five games now following his MCL injury. In those five games, they have lost 3 of them, failed to score 90 twice, Steph Curry’s shooting 29.8% from three point range, and they now only have a 1.5 game lead over the Spurs for the 1 seed. Steve Kerr won’t let a little rain side track him from the parade they hope to have come June, however.
According to the San Francisco Gate’s Connor Letourneau, Kerr will not risk further injuries in order to get out of their current slump,
“We still have the No. 1 seed, but I won’t run guys ragged to get it,” Kerr said. “We have to manage this stretch right here and get through this week.”
Steve Kerr is a smart coach with a roster loaded with talent, he knows better than to give in to the critiques over the lacklastur stretch without Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, the race for the 1 seed will be intriguing for the entirety of the NBA season. It would be used as a large case for Kawhi Leonard to be this seasons MVP and the home court advantage could prove huge come playoff time.
So, although Steve Kerr smartly won’t risk his players in the chase for better seeding, this decision could be a domino effect that affects the league’s and Warriors’ futures.
