When word first got out that ‘IT’ was being developed into a major motion picture many fans were rightfully worried. The 1990’s miniseries has become the iconic, cultural representation of the classic Stephen King novel. Throughout the development of the film adaptation of ‘IT’, there have been naysayers around every corner. When the first pictures of the new film version of Pennywise dropped it caused negative shockwaves across the internet. But then, the first trailer dropped. The first trailer for the film adaptation of ‘IT’ became such a smash that it went on to break the single day trailer views record on Youtube. Leading many of the naysayers to change their tune on the movie as a whole. But perhaps most importantly, Stephen King, the man who started it all has recently weighed in with his opinion on the new adaptation.
King said the following while speaking to Geekztor, “I had hopes but I was not prepared for how good it really is,” and followed up by stating that “It’s something that’s different and at the same time it’s something that audiences are going to relate to, and they’re gonna like the characters, because to me it’s all about character,”. Lastly, King stated, “I went back and saw it a second time and felt I was seeing things the second time through I’d missed the first time.”.
This praise should be music to the ears for fans of the property and given how harshly King has reacted to some of the adaptations of his work in the past it makes his approval even more meaningful.
