The Golden State Warriors look like best team in the NBA on paper, after signing all-star and MVP Kevin Durant, the team virtually looks like a Western Conference All-Star Game starting lineup. Despite this, they have a long way to go before being crowned the best team in basketball once again. As we have seen in the past, superstar teams don’t always work out. Some teams that have filled there roster with superstars in the past have failed like the Lakers with Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, or the Nets when they traded every pick they had for an aging Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. On the other hand, some have gone on to be successful champions, like LeBron James with the Miami Heat and with his current Cavaliers team. With the Warriors expecting a bunch of new faces in practise, including in their coaching staff, their will definitely be an adjustment period for this star-studded Warriors team.
Steph Curry knows that. The reigning league MVP will be the biggest question going into this season with Durant inserted in the starting lineup. Will he be able to continue his dominance in the league while he has another MVP to pass to, not to mention two other all-star teammates. Stephen Curry doesn’t think that matters, because his game won’t be changing at all. Per Darren Rovell of ESPN:
After Durant signed with the Warriors, Thompson insisted that he wasn’t changing his game to accommodate the team’s newest addition. Curry says he won’t either, which won’t be a surprise to Durant.
“It won’t change at all,” Curry said. “That’s the reason KD joined — knowing we weren’t going to sacrifice anything, that we all have to be ourselves to make things work. There will be some adjustments when it comes to the in-game flow and how we work together, but for us to be who we’re supposed to be, we all have to kind of elevate ourselves.”
Alright alright, so no one wants to change their game in this situation and everyone wants to get their usual shots up, but that’s not how it will work. As we’ve seen in the past, for a superstar team to work, their has to be sacrifices made by at least one of those superstars.
