The Warriors’ loss in the NBA Finals was one of the most stinging defeats in a long time. A record-setting 73-win team with the unanimous MVP blew a 3-1 lead in the Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers, costing themselves the chance of repeating as champions. It’s the storyline of a decade, one that will be glorified by Cavs’ fans for a long time.
Warriors players, however, will hold the agony of losing in that manner for some time, pending their success with a new look team. But just because they are stinging from the three straight losses doesn’t mean they can’t use them in some creative ways.
According to point guard Stephen Curry, in an interview with Nick DePaula of the Vertical, he wanted his latest ad with Under Armour to reflect his own struggles with dealing with the loss.
“This commercial is very real, very relevant,” he said. “It’s acknowledging what happened in the Finals and how we’re going to move on from that, push on and not let that define a career or a story.”
Still, much as Curry wants to “move on,” he acknowledges that the sting of that loss will probably be with him forever, for good or ill.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get the memory of the Finals out of my head, because it happened and I felt every emotion,” he said.
“I think it’s a good thing that it’ll live there as a motivator.”
Hey man, when you see 3-1 jokes on Twitter all day, sometimes you’re hit with some inspiration for a commercial. In all seriousness, a motivated Stephen Curry, no matter the circumstances, is pretty scary for the rest of the league. He’s probably watching his ad non-stop right now.
