Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will undoubtedly be one of the most coveted free agent players on the market this summer, with several teams expected to express interest in his services. Naturally, one would expect the Warriors to be among hem.
Curry, who was drafted by Golden State in 2009, is currently in his eighth season with the team. He was a part of the franchise’s best regular season in history last year, and lead the team to a championship back in 2015.
For Curry, leaving Golden State this summer is something that he simply does not envision happening (via Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News).
“I can’t,” Curry said. “Like I’ve said from Day 1 when I was first asked about free agency, this is a perfect place to play. Bay Area fans are amazing, our organization’s amazing, we’ve put together an amazing team that’s competing for championships every year.
“There’s really no reason that I can see right now that would draw me elsewhere.
“And we’ll see what happens. But that’s kind of a great position to be in and one that allows me to just focus on just playing good basketball this year and winning a championship and letting the rest of that handle itself.”
Curry has transitioned into being one of the Warriors’ top players since entering the league, even winning consecutive Most Valuable Player Awards last season and the season before.
In order for Golden State to remain successful, prioritizing Curry early in free agency this summer must happen. For now, Curry seemingly hopes to re-sign with the club, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
