At this moment Stephen Curry is enjoying the height of his career. He just won his first NBA championship and was the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.
Curry has one more year on his contract with the Warriors before he becomes a free agent in 2017, but in his words, and as expected, that’s not even a thought for him right now, via Jimmy Spencer of Sporting News:
“As I am thinking right now, free agency isn’t really appealing to me because I love where I’m at, love the organization I’m playing for, and the Bay Area is home for me and my family,” Curry said.
The Warriors will do whatever is necessary to keep Curry in Golden State, frankly, for the rest of his career. That will of course mean a max contract as opposed to the four-year extension he signed in 2012, which had him at around $11 million per year.
Could things change? Sure, but it would mean seeing some kind of epic internal collapse in the entire Warriors organization next season. Right now there wouldn’t be any logic in Curry pondering his free agency considering his current situation, and now he’s given the Warriors the earliest assurance that it won’t even need to be addressed when the time comes.
