The Outlander franchise is getting a bit bigger at Starz. According to Variety, the premium network is developing an Outlander prequel series. Not much is known about the plot of the series, but Matthew B. Roberts and Ronald D. Moore will executive produce the project. Adding on, the report suggests that a writers room will be developed in the next few weeks with a cast to follow shortly thereafter.
News of an Outlander prequel at Starz comes with little surprise. As it nears its end, the show remains one of the network’s most popular series. Also, Starz has shown in the past that it will look to create spinoff series if the opportunity presents itself. Following a successful six-season run of Power, the network created four different spinoff series. While it’s unlikely that there will be four Outlander spinoff series, one certainly makes sense given the network’s history.
