The Detroit Pistons had a disappointing season. Finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 37-45 record they underperformed their preseason expectations by a wide margin. Despite this, Andre Drummond had his usual statistical season averaging 13.6 points a game, 13.8 rebounds on 53% shooting. Beside from the solid box score stats, however, something is always missing when watching Drummond play basketball.
He has no real moves in the post, doesn’t shoot well from outside the paint, and his energy is hit or miss. Apparently, Stan Van Gundy is not thrilled with his effort either. The head coach of the Pistons, according to Noah Trister of the Associated Press, talked about the higher ceiling that exists for Drummond if he had that consistent fire.
“I think that he needs to have a sense of urgency to elevate his game,”
“He’s been in the league five years now. He’s still young. He hasn’t turned 24. So he’s got time. He’s a very talented guy. He’s been one of the elite rebounders in the league. He’s got some great things to work with, but there’s more there. The sky is the limit for him.”
Andre Drummond is still very young and has lots to work with like SVG mentioned. He just needs to remain focused and attentive every second he is on the floor instead of every third second.
