All things, including games, must end.
This summer, Netflix will share the third and final season of Squid Game, a dystopian thriller starring Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun. Over the weekend, members of the hit show’s cast, along with other Netflix stars, headed west to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California for Tudum, a Netflix-sponsored fan event. The streamer debuted new trailers and footage from many of its most highly anticipated series and films, including Happy Gilmore II, Stranger Things, and, of course, Squid Game. As viewers watched the trailer for the show’s third and final chapter, Lee Jung-jae watched nervously as he prepares to say goodbye to his most globally successful role yet.
“We are going to be releasing quite soon. I am very nervous. I know that a lot of you out there are curious about what’s going to happen in season three, but all of us are more curious about how much you’re going to enjoy it,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “So I can’t wait, I’m very nervous.”
Lee Jung-jae plays the role of Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456. In season three, he will continue his fight against the deadly games and the organization behind them. Lee Byung-hun, the actor leading the organization behind Squid Game, says the show’s final season is “perfectly written,” but remains “very nervous” to find out how fans will react.
“It was just perfectly written. It was such an intriguing and gripping read and I was once again in awe of director Hwang [Dong-hyuk]’s abilities,” he said. “I’m happy with how it ended but I know that the fans out there, they each have what they want to see happen, so I really am curious about how they’re going to respond to it. And I’m very nervous to find out.”
Netflix’s Squid Game will return for a third and final time on June 27, 2025.
