Spinderella is reportedly suing her group mates Salt-N-Pepa, for owing her royalties. According to TMZ, Spinderella, whose real name is Deidra Roper, filed a lawsuit against the group because she was promised one-third of the royalties from their 1999 Best of Salt-N-Pepa album. But according to the Salt-N-Pepa DJ, she never received the royalties.
TMZ reports that Spinderella also claims that “she also got cheated when Salt-N-Pepa excluded her from a VH1 TV show based on the group’s rise to stardom.” She says she was promised one-third of the group’s fee of the show but received less than one-third of the share.
Spinderella also says that she got no money for the rap group’s performance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. Lastly, in the lawsuit, the DJ was informed by SoundExchange, that her group mates were paid more than $600,000 in royalties over the last decade. She, however, hasn’t gotten any of that money.
“Spinderella’s suing for trademark infringement — she says Salt-N-Pepa continue to use her to promote performances — and fraud and breach of contract.”
