Last night, all of Hollywood descended upon the Dolby Theater for the biggest night in cinema. Throughout the night, those in attendance and those at home were thoroughly entertained. Black Panther took home a few awards, Regina King took home her first Oscar and Roma pushed Netflix films into a new territory. Not to mention, Marvel Studios finally picked up the first Oscar in their long and successful history. With all of that being said, there was one major reason why everyone was there. We were all waiting to see who would win “Best Picture” and then it happened.

To close out the 91st Academy Awards, Julia Roberts awarded the “Best Picture” award to Green Book on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The Peter Farrelly directed film beat out Oscar favorites, A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and Roma for this year’s award. Unfortunately, their victory didn’t sit well with many of those in attendance.
Spike Lee was visibly angry when "Green Book" was announced as the winner of best picture at the Oscars, waving his arms in disgust and appearing to try to storm out of the Dolby Theatre before he was stopped at the doors. He returned to his seat when the speeches were over.

One of the many who took issue with Green Book‘s win was Spike Lee. As described by many, Lee was visibly confused and astonished when the film took home the night’s biggest award. Andy James Dalton of the Associated Press wrote, “Spike Lee was visibly angry when “Green Book” was announced as the winner of best picture at the Oscars, waving his arms in disgust and appearing to try to storm out of the Dolby Theatre before he was stopped at the doors.”
Fortunately, the night wasn’t all that bad for the legendary filmmaker. Spike Lee took home his first ever Academy Award last night for “Best Adapted Screenplay”. Watch his full acceptance speech here.
