Unfortunately, there has been a major shakeup in the theatrical calendar. Variety has reported that the long awaited follow-up to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will not debut on October 7, 2022 as previously scheduled. Instead, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation have delayed the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse until June 2023. As expected, fans were not too happy with this decision.
“Across The Spider-Verse being delayed is anti-Black. I will get to the bottom of this,” one fan tweeted.
“Oh, you have got to be absolutely kidding me right now,” another fan wrote.
On the bright side, there is a bit of good news. The third part of this animated theatrical journey, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II, will arrive in March 2024. Additionally, Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, will debut July 7, 2023.
Beyond the scope of superhero films, Sony Pictures has announced that The Equalizer III will debut September 1, 2023. Meanwhile, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is set to premiere in October 2022 and Devotion is scheduled to hit theaters on October 14, 2022.
