Sources: Larry Drew Set To Join Cavaliers Coaching Staff
Former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Larry Drew will be joining first-year NBA coach David Blatt on the Cleveland Cavaliers sideline as an assistant next season, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. Drew was relieved of his duties as Milwaukee’s head coach when they awarded Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd the job this summer.
Drew started his NBA coaching career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1992. He was head coach of the Bucks for two seasons and Atlanta Hawks for three seasons before that. His experience in the field is invaluable, particularly for Blatt as he develops and adapts his coaching conditions in the NBA.
It was reported that Drew even went out to Israel two years ago to talk basketball with Blatt and observe Blatt’s team at the time, Maccabi Tel Aviv. There might be a rapport established. Enough eyes will be on the Cleveland Cavaliers this upcoming season, but I’m interested to see Blatt, Drew, and the coaching staff’s imprint on this roster.
