Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be able to see all of their favorite films in one place very soon. Sony has announced that after its current deal ends with Netflix, its films will stream on Disney-owned platforms like Disney +, FX, Freeform and National Geographic.
Through this deal, Sony films will go to Netflix for their “first-pay windows,” which typically come 18 months after a film is released. After that, films will move over to Disney-operated platforms. This deal will run from 2022 through 2026 and include films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Morbius and Jumanji.
“This landmark multiyear, platform-agnostic agreement guarantees the team at Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution a tremendous amount of flexibility and breadth of programming possibilities to leverage Sony’s rich slate of award-winning action and family films across our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels,” Chuck Saftler of Disney told the Hollywood Reporter.
“This is a win for fans, who will benefit from the ability to access the very best content from two of Hollywood’s most prolific studios across a multitude of viewing platforms and experiences.”
