Sonequa Martin-Green is in talks to join Lebron James in Space Jam 2, according to Variety. Martin Green will reportedly play James’ on-screen wife in the film.
The long-awaited sequel has been rumored nearly since Lebron joined the NBA over 15 years ago. However, they really gained steam in 2015 after his production banner, SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. The film was then officially announced last fall. It will reportedly begin production later this summer once James’ season ends.
Terence Nance, best known for his HBO series Random Acts of Flyness, is attached to direct. James is producing alongside Maverick Carter through SpringHill Entertainment. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is also set to produce the film. Plot details are light but Lebron is expected to team up with the Looney Tunes to take on a new threat.
In the original Space Jam, other NBA stars such as Larry Bird and Charles Barkley made appearances. So, many fans are expecting to see modern NBA stars appear but no announcements have been made on that front.
Space Jam 2 hits theaters on July 16, 2021.
