From Long Beach to Paris, Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus Jr. continues to impact culture and sport while crossing items off of his bucket list. On Friday, July 26, the critically-acclaimed artist and entrepreneur will carry the Olympic torch shortly before the 2024 Summer Olympic Games Opening Ceremony takes place.
“Saint Denis: last step before the Eiffel Tower. An international cast [Snoop Dogg] for the last stretch of the Olympic Flame,” Saint-Denis Mayor Mathieu Hanotin wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to the Olympic stage, having helped NBC’s coverage of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. However, the honor of carrying the Olympic torch holds an unexplainable level of significance to the Long Beach native.
“This says a lot about America as far as where we’re at in this world,” Snoop Dogg told Mike Tirico and Molly Solomon of NBC.
“At the same time, it says a lot about France as far as connecting the dots and allowing me to do this. I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this. I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”
