According to Deadline, Showtime has passed on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s series adaptation of The Kingkiller Chronicle. The series was set to be a prequel released in conjunction with Lionsgate’s planned Kingkiller Chronicle film. Lionsgate TV is now shopping the series around at various networks.
Set in the world of Patrick Rothfuss’ best-selling Kingkiller Chronicle fantasy book series, John Rogers is attached as writer and showrunner on the series. Miranda is been attached as a creative producer and is expected to compose the show’s score. The series has several completed scripts but no networks are jumping at the opportunity. Apple has reportedly agreed to take a look at the scripts though.
Elsewhere, Miranda is set to star in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of The Golden Compass. Lionsgate TV has also got some really interesting things in the pipeline. They recently signed Mary J. Blige to a first-look TV deal and she’s developing a series based on the life of drug queenpin Thelma Wright. And, on Showtime’s side, a series about the United States’ most influential First Ladies is in development with Viola Davis attached to portray Michelle Obama.
