
Award-winning screenwriter, producer and author Shonda Rhimes will receive a special award from the British Academy Film Awards in New York on May 3, 2023. BAFTA presents special prizes to “those who have made a significant, inspiring and outstanding contribution to film, games and television.”
“Shonda’s trailblazing work has captured our hearts and inspired audiences around the world. As a groundbreaking producer, showrunner and writer, her impact on the landscape of modern global television is simply unparalleled,” Rhimes said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Shonda has built the foundation and platform to launch global careers and has created the opportunity for new voices and talents to thrive in this industry. She has raised the bar, set the standard, and it is simply impossible to think of a television industry without her creative force, talent, and vision behind it.”
Rhimes is one of the most influential forces in entertainment. The Chicago creative has played an integral role in several iconic films and television series, including Grey’s Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal. Six years ago, she secured a multi-year deal with Netflix. Thus far, she has begun working on a dozen different projects with the streaming provider, including the incredibly popular series, Bridgerton.
