In the midst of New York Fashion Week, Shay Kawaii seems to be marching to her own beat with her Caribbean inspired designs. As unique as her designs, the self-taught designer is no different. Kawaii was born in Paris then later moved to St. Marten which speaks to her eccentric, yet vibrant design aesthetic. Shay stays ahead of the curve while she innovatively spices it up as her line for seven years has continued to blossom. The designer’s past lines have reflected the 90’s era and Japanese Kawaii culture. Kawaii is currently based in Brooklyn. While her clothing line includes two-piece shirts and skirts, she also has a variety of other pieces like trousers, dresses, kimonos, and outerwear.

The latest showcase of her newest line, presented by Style Fashion Week and Papertrail Magazine, included swimwear, sweatpants, cropped sweaters, bomber jackets and more. The line stayed consistent with the aesthetic of Kawaii’s previous lines donning beautiful vibrant colors like electric orange, green, and pink. Kawaii shares that this is her “very first show in NYC” and her first launch of a men’s collection.
