Last month, she ran the 6th fastest time ever. Then she followed it up with a 10.74 in the prelims of the 2021 USATF Golden Games. Today, Sha’Carri Richardson ran 10.77 in the finals with a headwind working against her. She has run so consistently and strong the last month. She showed a bit of emotion and frustration at her time when she crossed the line but will be happy with the win. She was the only one to break 11-seconds. Javianne Oliver finished 2nd in 11.08.
After taking the NCAA world by storm as an LSU Tiger, Richardson went pro after just a single season in college. With her signature hair colors and nails, she has a flair for the fashionable. Her start was good, not great after a hesitation as the women lined up in blocks. While the headwind probably caused her to not break 10.7, Richardson made it known she isn’t going to make an excuse, especially after a win.

She is chasing history and knows how to put on a show when she races. Right now, there isn’t anyone in the world who has as much confidence as Sha’Carri Richardson. She told interviewers after the race something to the effect of ‘not being done yet’. If that is true, then there should be some special races coming our way courtesy of the 6th fastest woman of all time.
When she ran her 10.72 personal best last month, many were skeptical. It happened so early in the year, no one runs that fast in April of an Olympic year. Richardson did that though and followed it with possibly a more impressive race despite a slower time. She will be a favorite not only to take the US title at the Olympic Trials, but she will also be a favorite to take gold in Tokyo.
