He’s back!
Weeks after delivering the Alicia Keys-inspired “Main Ingredient,” sectiontoo has returned with a new single called “Closer 2 U.” The Will Fisher-produced track shares a similar summertime, uptempo feel, but stands out with its infectious fusion of club, R&B and pop to deliver a feeling that is unique to the New York native. Backed by production from his longtime friend and collaborator, sectiontoo dances on the track, delivering quotable lines and melodic runs that effortlessly capture the push-and-pull of romantic tension, making “Closer 2 U” a certified warm-weather anthem.
“I’m in the back of the spot. [I’ve got a] cup full of yes, indeed. Get me right. She’s trying to see where I spend my nights. Vegas or somethin’, I’m lucky tonight,” he raps. “5’3, bad one. Just what I like. That one. That one. Just what I like. Me and you, baby, [for the] rest of my life? Stop it. If I know one thing, I know.”
From “Main Ingredient” to “Closer 2 U,” it appears that sectiontoo has stamped his signature sound for the summer. As explained in his 2024 conversation with Def Pen, sectiontoo’s early Pop and R&B influences through the Backstreet Boys and other groups and solo acts of the early 2000s inspire his sound today and blend seamlessly with the trends and patterns of today. With each passing track, it becomes easier and easier to see the distinct lane that he’s carving out for himself in today’s landscape. While we wait to see if his latest releases will lead to a full-length project later this year or early next year, check out the “Closer 2 U” video below.
