As Mike Sampson of Screen Crush points out, the original Tarzan of the Apes novel published back in 1912 by Edgar Rice Burroughs has been adapted more than two dozen times into various media. The most recent adaptation, which is set to arrive on July 1, sports a staggering budget and has just gotten a second trailer.
“It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash” (Warner Brothers).
Despite the reportedly grand budget, the film has been having its share of hitches along the way. David Yates, director of the final four Harry Potter films, left the project during post production in order to work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This questionable abandonment and the fact that the film has done poorly in the test screenings do not bode well for Tarzan. However, we must hope for the best! Check out the film’s latest trailer below.
The Legend of Tarzan will hit US theaters on July 1st, and stars Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Christopher Waltz, Djimon Hounsou, Samuel L. Jackson, Simon Russell-Beale, and John Hurt.
